Brief explanation: This lesson is to create awareness on the subject of home economics. A subject that prepares pupils for their future. Through the study of home economics, you learn how to manage your resources, prepare simple meals, make simple craft items, look after yourself and your home and to do many more things. We will also look at areas in home economics, careers in home economics.

NOTES FOR THE PUPILS

Home economics is the area of study that helps pupils learn skills, attitudes and manners that are useful to them, the family and the society.

Home economics is also the field of study that provides pupils with knowledge and skills needed to live a satisfactory life.

AREAS OF HOME ECONOMICS- These are listed here below from 1 to 6.

  1. Food and nutrition: This area teaches about food processing, preservation, meal preparation, sources of food and nutrient found and meal services.
  2. Home management: This area teaches pupils about how to use the family’s resources to meet the needs of family members, how to look after members of the family, the home and ourselves.
  3. Clothing and textiles: This area teaches pupils about kinds of fabrics, making of fabrics, sewing of garments, knitting, making of craft, care of clothing and so on.
  4. Consumer Education: This area teaches pupils how to spend wisely and make good decisions when buying items.
  5. Child Development and care: This area teaches pupils about the growth and development of children and the proper ways of caring for them in each stage of growth.
  6. Family Living: This area teaches pupils how to live together and maintain good relationships with family members.
