Poetry is a type of literature based on the interplay of words and rhythm. In poetry, words are strung together to form sounds, images and ideas that might be too complex or abstract to describe directly. It is the collection of poems or an act of writing or composing a poem.
Types of Poetry – Listed below from 1 to 6 are different types of poetry.
- Epic Poetry: An epic is a long and narrative poem that normally tells a story about a hero or an adventure. Epics can be presented or written stories.
- Ballard Poems: Ballard poems also tells a story like epic poems do. However, a Ballard poetry is Often based on a legend or a folk tale. These poems may take the form of songs or they may contain a moral lesson.
- Sonnet: Sonnets are one of the most famous type of poetry, the sonnet has been popular with writers. A sonnet contains 14 lines typically with two rhyming stanzas known as a rhyming couplet at the end.
- Ode: Odes address a specific person, thing or event. An ode is a poem that renders praises on a person, thing or event.
- Lyric poem: This is a kind of poem that features a single speaker whose purpose is to share a state of mind, a mood or attitude.
- Dirge: A dirge is a poem that is sung for the dead. It is a song of morning performed as a memorial to someone who died. It is usually sad.
