Brief explanation

Plants are living things. Plants can breathe, feed and reproduce just like other living things. Plants generates their food using the sun through a process known as photosynthesis.

Meaning of a plant.

A plant is a living thing that grows from the soil. Humans breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide, but plants take in carbon dioxide and send out oxygen. Plants breathe (respire) through the lenticels (tiny holes on the stem) and stomata (tiny holes on the leaves). They also excrete through the stomata and lenticel.

Structure of a plants – Big plants are called trees. Medium sized plants are called shrubs and small plants are called herbs.

 

Types of plants

The following are some types of plants

  1. Orange plant
  2. Mango plant
  3. Oil palm tree
  4. Cassava plant
  5. Paw-paw plant
  6. Maize plant
  7. Okra plant
  8. Tomato plant
  9. Waterleaf plant
  10. Potato plant

Plants provide food for humans and animals. Some plants are used for medicinal purposes. Some are used to decorate our surroundings and some produce raw materials like cotton and wood.
