Brief explanation
Alternatively referred to as digital storage, storage, storage media, or storage medium, a storage device is any hardware capable of holding information either temporarily or permanently.
Types of storage devices are: primary storage devices and secondary storage devices.
1.) Primary storage:
A primary storage device is a medium that holds memory for short (temporarily) periods of time while a computer is running. Although it has a much lower access time and faster performance, it is also about two orders of magnitude costlier than secondary storage.
2.) Secondary storage:
A secondary storage device refers to any non-volatile storage device that is internal or external to the computer. It can be any storage device beyond the primary storage that enables permanent data storage. A secondary storage device is also known as an auxiliary storage device or external storage.
