TOPIC: SEWING: MEANING, MATERIAL USED AND THE PEOPLE INVOLVED.

BRIEF EXPLANATION: Materials worn on the body are made by sewing and the people involved in sewing are the ones that clothe the world.

Needle and thread are used in manual sewing. Manual sewing means sewing by hand. Sewing machines are also used to sew. They help make the sewing job fast and easy. The big sewing machines used in big factories are industrial sewing machines. In the GARMENT FACTORY of Calabar a lot of sewing goes on to produce garments of different types. A man whose profession is sewing is called a tailor and a woman whose profession is sewing is called a seamstress.

Cloth is used to make the clothes we wear.

  8. Table – Used to pace the material while cutting, ironing measuring etc.
  9. Glue
  10. Tool bag – Used to keep the sewing tools.
  11. Pins
  12. Iron (electric and box) – This is used to smoothen the cloth while sewing.
  13. beads and stones – Used for decorating the clothes sewn.
